Plant Carbon

Estimates how much carbon the vegetation around each address takes up in a year, from NASA satellite data processed in Google Earth Engine.

How it works

  1. LocateEach address is turned into map coordinates.
  2. Draw the areaA circle of the chosen size, from 1 to 5 km, is drawn around the site.
  3. MeasureAdds up the yearly carbon uptake (net primary production) that the MODIS satellite records inside the circle.
  4. CompareShows each year on its own, never summed, so sites and years can be compared side by side.

Why it helps

  • Gives a simple number for how green an area is
  • Covers every year from 2001 to 2024
  • Needs no GIS or satellite skills
  • Results download as an Excel file
